"Subtitles in english for the 1974 film directed by Fred Haines. Starring Max Von
Sidow. NOTES ABOUT THIS RELEASE: These subtitles are a translation from the Portuguese subtitles
attached to the only copy of this film which has been around on the internet for a while, and, as I suppose,
you have already. My knowledge of Portuguese is as fathomless as my knowledge on German, but being
good at Spanish has given me the ability of at least succeeding in translating easily 75% of the whole story
approximately without much straggle. The rest are add-ons taken straight from the book (in copy-and-paste
fashion), as many parts of the voice-overs are missing in the Portuguese text (I don’t know exactly why)
especially at the beginning of the film. Some other passages were either not well in sync or they just
overlapped one another, although, fortunately fewer were this way. All in all the result is a roughly accurate
translation sufficiently well developed to understand the whole plot. Leaving modesty aside, I think I have
done a fairly good job. If you happen not to be satisfied by it (which shouldn’t be the case) I suggest you to
buy the film instead, or better, to buy the book and check it all yourself :-) If you happen to be a German
speaker, please, feel free to either correct or improve as much as you think necessary from the text and
make it available for us English speakers. I hope you enjoy this incredible movie (which I myself know by
hard now after checking so many times all dialogues from it). If you happen not to have read the book I
suggest you to do so, as you will understand a lot of details unsaid in the film. I leave you now with the great
