One of the very great Weimar sound comedies. The British version is very good too, especially Jack Hulbert in Felix Bressart's part, but here you have the original UFA sets, costumes and lighting. And Mary Glory has the same soft feminine air and voice as Renate Müller, Jean Murat is certainly more capable of melting a secretary's heart than Hermann Thimig, and Armand Bernard is yet another brillant facette of the Bressart role, in short, great, we love it and we thank you!

I completely agree with Serdar's assessment of this one. It's almost certainly closer to the unseen original, and Marie Glory is an ideal stand-in for Renate Müller; she even looks a lot like her, although she plays the part perhaps in a slightly more conventionally 'cute' way. The Bressart part is better integrated in the general course of affairs than in "Sunshine Susie", in which Jack Hulbert's glorious performance almost steals the show of the whole film.
But that's one of the qualities of the English version, which I still absolutely adore: it remains faithful to the original, or to this French version, but adds a little something of its own which makes it very special. For instance, the wonderful "Ich bin ja heut so glücklich"-sequence is slightly extended in "Sunshine Susie", and certainly to its advantage. Still, the original Babelsberg sets and of course the direction by Thiele himself make the French version look slightly more like a 'real' Weimar film, and it certainly has all the required whirlwind charm, too.
So, French or English, this film remains simply irresistible for me. Probably the greatest Weimar sound film I've ever seen...
