Umphrey's McGee is an American jam band originally from South Bend, Indiana. Although the band is part of the jam band scene, like Phish and the Grateful Dead (with ever-changing setlists, improvisation, two sets per night, open taping policy, etc.), they are much more influenced musically by progressive rock artists such as King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, and early Genesis, as well as heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Van Halen. The band also identifies The Police, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin as primary influences. UM experiments with many musical styles, including rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, electronic, bluegrass, and folk.

Umphrey's McGee and STS9 roared into the windy city of Chicago and embarked on Northerly Island to rage the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion in front of the hometown masses. While the sun was still setting behind the beautiful Chicago skyline, STS9 kicked off the night with a bang, going straight into "This, Us." The powerful set featured the Liquid Horns supporting the band for several tracks delivering the brass tax. A beautiful mid-set "Circus" elevated the crowd, and later in the set David Murphy commented on the full moon shining upon the crowd before playing a gigantic "Moon Socket."
Umphrey's McGee then took the stage with a rocking rendition of "Le Blitz" transitioning smoothly into an extended improvisational version of "Bridgeless." Jefferson Waful continued to amaze everyone with his face-melting light show. STS9 joined Umphrey’s McGee on stage for a monumental cover of David Bowie's "Let's Dance." The crowd begged for more, and Bayliss promised their return back to Chicago very soon.

Umphrey's McGee played the first show in Georgia since their scorching New Year's Eve run at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, and the band was more than ready to be back raging in the Peach State. UM played a huge set, including classic songs like "Miss Tinkle's Overture" and "Puppet String." The set also contained the southern rock tune "Women Wine and Song," which stood out as a fan favorite and had the entire crowd singing along.
STS9 stormed the stage and took the energy to whole other level on this beautiful Saturday in Georgia. As night fell on Encore Park, lighting designer Saxton Waller filled up the venue and illuminated the audience with his stunning lighting rig. The energy was out of this world as STS9 started off on fire with "Kabuki" and "Monkey Music". STS9 continued to rock the crowd, and were joined late in the set on-stage by UM members Jake, Stasik, and Bayliss for a classic cover of Blondie's "Heart of Glass." The beautiful "Breathe In" was placed perfectly in the set, and a huge encore of "This, Us" and "Golden Gate" left the fans praising the "mind-expanding musical enjoyment" that was STS9/Umphreys 2013 Summer Tour!
